5.0 out of 5 stars Fab for a Fiver!, 24 Nov 2004
By A. P. Barbour (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
What a FABULOUS book and for only a fiver! It's a neat, well constructed and very cleverly presented book, full of simple, but easily do-able ideas, that will change the world through collective action. I realised that I could do some of the actions, and now that I have, I'm encouraging my family, friends and work colleagues to do some too. This is a great book that you should buy and then buy more copies for your family and friends - definitely a good christmas pressie - and all the money goes to a very good cause. So go on and buy several.

5.0 out of 5 stars Change the World for a Fiver, 21 Sep 2004
This is a very exciting book, not at all what you would expect. It contains 50 different ideas for improving the world. Some of the ideas are very simple, some more complex. Everyone can do some of them and that does make you feel good.
The book is suitable for people of all ages - it will make a fantastic present. It includes many unusual features : a postcard to send to someone who has inspired you, seeds for you to plant and the cover is a poster.
. It is very exciting to see your action added to the total in front of your eyes. Everyone in my family has registered their actions, from the ages of 9 to 50.
If you want to know more about the book visit the website, it's brilliant.
At £5 the book is great value, I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book a refreshing, challenging and enjoyable gem., 8 Oct 2004
Change the world for a fiver holds up such a simple idea. This is that whatever we do shapes the world we live in.

You might expect this to be a solemn polemic that would make the reader feel guilty and or powerless.

The authors have completely avoided this by creating a mini-masterpiece of wit and common sense. They list fifty things that anyone can do to make the world a better place. Each one is presented wittily on a separate page with simple illustrations, or practical things like a postcard, or seeds for "Plant a tree".

They include "Have a bath with someone you love" (Save water. Have fun. Just get out before everythng becomes wrinkled); Write to someone who inspired you (Nice to do, nice to get, what's not to like about it).

My favourite is "Learn to be friendly in another language". This is not something I do, but it is something I want to try.
"Ma yumkin an as 'ad" is "Can I help in" Arabic. They say "Just by learning a few words in a foreign language, it is amazing how much genuine warmth you an generate". I believe them, what would happen if thousands of us did it?

This initiative is supported by the leaders of the three main political parties. I am very enthusiastic about it because it goes against the apathy and powerlessness that so many people carry. Instead, it is a beacon of hope. Its genius is it shows that making the world a better place could be fun!<
