Product Description
Every week, hundreds of commercial and residential properties are sold at auction in Britain, often at bargain prices, with owner-occupiers accounting for a growing proportion of buyers. In this bestselling guide, author and property auctioneer Howard Gooddie spells out how straightforward the auction route can be and divulges the tips and practices of this relatively unknown world.
About the Author
Howard Gooddie was head of auctions at Longden and Cook Commercial in Manchester, before retiring from the practice in December 2000. His father and grandfather were auctioneers before him and he grew up immersed in the world of auctions. During his boyhood he was a 'lotter' and clerk at many of his father's auctions. Howard's first property sale was in 1957 when he was 25. Throughout his career he has conducted more than 210 composite auction sales and has offered nearly 13,000 lots, inspecting virtually all of them himself.
Howard Gooddie was a member of the auctioneering skills panel of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and is a Master of Arts from Cambridge University with a Certificate of Proficiency in Estate Management. He also holds a Diploma in Town Planning and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
