The book is a practical guide to rigging techniques and practices and also thoroughly covers safety issues and discusses the implications of working within recommended guidelines and regulations.
Chris Higgs career was paved from working in regional theatres through to specializing in rigging and stage machinery. Health issues put a stop to full time rigging in the late nineties, at which point Chris applied his extensive experience in this field to safety and rigging training.
This book brings his training material together in one publication as a stand-alone reference work for riggers and rigging. Although an essential addition to the bookshelf of anyone working at height and with temporary overhead structures, this book is not intended to replace any formal training and should be used as a complement to safety training, not a replacement.
About the Author
Chris Higgs was born in 1958 and having developed an interest in stage lighting, left school at the first opportunity in 1973.
He subsequently worked in subsidised rep., touring theatre, dance and music, gradually moving towards rigging and stage engineering.
Developing from work as a free-lance rigger through the 1980s and his first business Showsafe he founded Trapeze Rigging in 1989. The companies provided rigging services through-out the UK and Europe. In the mid 90s Chris started to provide rigging training and it was during this time that the beginnings of this book were written, to try to bring together information for riggers from many sources. Hereditary heart disease requiring surgery put a stop to full time rigging in 1998 and since joining Total Fabrications Ltd., Chris has devoted the majority of his time to training riggers in the UK and overseas.
He has contributed to the writing of BTEC and NVQ rigging standards and been involved in a number of recent rigging training and standards initiatives. Chris is a member of the PSA and the ABTT and through Total Fabrications a corporate member of PLASA and the STLD.
