Product Description

Product Description
The only book of its kind on this innovative and interesting subject. The Japanese folded patchwork technique was first introduced to Mary Clare Clark by a Japanese student who had gone home for a visit and found a book on this type of patchwork. She set about making folded shapes of the basic patterns, and found the techniques very versatile and inspiring. Because each folded patchwork square is a self-contained unit it is possible to make them as you go along, during a busy day, watching television, or on holiday. Joining the pieces when you have the time and space almost makes an instant quilt. Following the same basic techniques, a wide variety of squares, hexagons and circles in contrasting patches can be made. Once sewn together they can be used to make attractive patterns of crosses, diamonds, chevrons, flowers, stars and much more. This comprehensive introduction to this fascinating technique provides 20 easy-to-follow projects for creating quilts, throws, wall hangings and mats.

3.0 out of 5 stars All substance and No style !, 23 Jul 2003
By A Customer
This is a good book spoiled by poor editing. The idea of patchwork 'origami' is novel and interesting. The projects are well illustrated and appealing but the written instructions are among the worst I have come across. I looked at the simplest project for a cushion cover. Far from shedding any light on the subject the instructions were a hurdle to be overcome. It is only worth buying if you are confident that you can sort out the technical points for yourself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting projects ruined by mistakes in the instructions., 15 Aug 2001
Really liked the projects, paticularly the Attic Window and the Octagonal panes. But the templates for the first were wrong, the seam allowance had been added twice to one side of the triangles. As for the octagons, an octagon is a regular shape with 8 equal sides, not a square with the corners cut off! With a bit of thought and experience and some knowledge of Maths it is possible to work out how to achieve good results, but a beginner would be put off. That's a pity, because I'm sure the techniques are worth exploring.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment, 19 April 2006

I was expecting a lot more from this book. It didn't really add anything to my knowledge. The instructions are poor and the finished articles are large and clumsy rather than the delicate delights I have come to expect from Japanese techniques.
