5.0 out of 5 stars A sumptuous celebration of a Lady and her Art, 26 Oct 2002
By A Customer
Although this is an admittedly expensive volume, few words can describe the beauty both of the book itself and the hundreds of paintings, drawings and photographs contained herein. An absolutely invaluable companion to Passion By Design and the more recent biographies from Neret and Claridge, the sheer love that has gone into the compilation of this volume breathes down your neck as you read.

In content, this Lempicka title cannot be surpassed or faulted. The reproductions (over 600!) are lavish and honest - whereas certain nuances of colour and shadow are lost in most repros of Tamara's work, much effort has been paid to honest depiction in this title, making previously seen images a revelation. Preparatory sketches illumine Tamara's artistic process, while the dozens of fascinating photographs of the artist herself provide a rare glimpse into a sadly lost era. An accompanying CD-Rom means that you can study the book's content on your PC, avoiding the risk of mucky fingerprints on a book that really deserves to be read while wearing gloves.

Although I am renowned for my miserliness, I don't regret one penny of the cover price and anyone else who loves Lempicka will, I am sure, feel the same. I praise very little in general, but this is a work worth shouting about. Applause and respect to Alain Blondel for the part he has played in Lempicka's story - I only hope history remembers the sterling role he has played in presenting her work to as wide an audience as possible.
