Product Description

POINTS TO PROVE - NEW SEVENTH EDITION - 2009 - brown cover. Especially useful to probationers, specials and PCSO's. The new seventh edition includes the new offence of false representation which replaces the old deception offence, disguised knives and offensive weapons, religious hatred changes, defence of lawful chastisement, defence of self defence, changes under the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, definition of sexual touching, male prostitution and up-to-date case law. A new offence of using a mobile phone whilst driving has been included. The individual points of each offence are explained. How to prove each points is explained with what questions to ask and evidence to gather. As with all law books they gradually become out of date as the law changes but I will update this book by addendums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful- a great help, 5 Sep 2005
This review is from: Points to Prove (Paperback)
I bought this book as I wanted something more indepth than the Beat Officer's Companion but still small enough to carry with me on duty. This book satisfies both of these points. Not only is it pocket sized just like the Beat Officer's Companion but also helps you understand the points to prove for the laws that will be most used by police on the streets. This book will take a bit of pressure off of new probationers or people trying to join the police force. Very helpful book. I hope Taking Statements is just as good.

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just PNLDB in paper back, 10 Aug 2006
By Chris (Devon, UK) - See all my reviews
I thought that this was just going to be a replication of all the information you can get from the Police National Legal Database but is more than that. The offence wording and breakdown can be found on PNLDB or any other legal source but there is guidance on how you might ask questions in interview to get the points proved. There is a comprehensive, though not exhaustive, list of offences that PC Bloggs may ocme across in his/her daily duties and it covers the latest SOCAP and PACE rules and ammendments along with guidence on these new police powers. Best of all though this is a pocket sized reference you can have with you at all times and is also a great aid to statement taken too. I recommend buying this with "Statment Taken" too, but make sure you get the Sixth edition of each.

5.0 out of 5 stars Points to prove., 28 April 2006
By The Enforcer (Norwich,Norfolk) - See all my reviews
I bought the latest edition ( the green one) from the shop when I was at Ashford and I use it all the time to prepare for taped interviews back in force. It helps me to structure the questions I want to ask, it is clearly understandable and an invaluable aide-memoire. I really can't recommend this little book highly enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars The ideal pocket reference
This is another excellent pocket reference guide. It compliments 'Taking statements', but it a little more meaty with regards to legislation. Read more
