4.0 out of 5 stars absorbing and amusing, 17 Jul 2001
By A Customer
I have to confess I know the author, as I also visited the Falklands and South Georgia during his tenure as Chief Executive.

That notwithstanding, the book is a excelent insight into the unique job of FI Governments CE. It's a unique place, with a unique people and a unique set of problems, and their very own way of doing things and sorting those problems.

I love the place, I love the people, and I love this book (I'm already on my 2nd reading of it!).

I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in the Islands.

4.0 out of 5 stars A diverting and entertaining bedside read., 24 Jan 2002
By nick@bookerhopkins.co.uk (Lichfield Staffs England) - See all my reviews
I read this book over Christmas and it proved to be a diverting and entertaining bedside read. It is a mildly iconoclastic view of the Falkland Islands by an insider who spent 5 years as Chief Executive of the FI. Anyone contemplating going to the Islands or interested in how an English village community (or maybe "The Archers"!) carries on in the South Atlantic should read this book. The down side is descriptive hyperbole and metaphor overload but this a small price to pay. The book would benefit from a map of the Islands.
