Product Description

Product Description

This play is one of Shakespeare's great tragedies. It encompasses witchcraft, bloody murder, ghostly apparitions and high poetry. Macbeth's tragedy is that of a good, brave and honourable man turned into the personification of evil by the workings of unreasonable ambition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pioneering Wordsworth strike CD-Rom Gold, 9 April 2001
By A Customer
Wordsworth Classics, the people who introduced the concept of the "pound classic" are at it again. This is the first in an (ongoing) series of their popular range, but with an added extra, a comprehensive CD-Rom which has not only the entire text, cross referenced using HTML, but also historical contexts (including a brief timeline of the Elizabethan/Stuart eras), character and scene synopses and a dynamic textual glossary. There's even a map of Scotland so the places mentioned in the text can be found!

These extras add to the text for all readers, from Key Stage 1 through GCSE and "A" level and even University level right through to the casual reader who just wants a bit more information about the text.

The CD-Rom also comes with a revised version of the original (printed) pound classic, with a new introduction and notes written by Cedric Watts, Professor of English Literature at the University of Sussex.

The CD-Rom presentation is viewable within your normal browser, although Wordsworth recommend IE5 (on the CD). With this release, Wordsworth have again pioneered the publishing world. It's a good product, and well worth the asking price.
