I've got two editions of the Rough Guide to the internet but have grown increasingly frustrated with the mid-Atlantic focus, where half the sites recommended have little or no relevance for us here in .co.uk.

Thank heavens then for The Good Web Guide. I seized on this with delight, having bought and enjoyed their books on Genealogy and Food. This brings the same sound editorial judgement to a wide selection of sites, and provides just the right level of detail you need to get the best out of them. The range of practical sites is amazing: everything from choosing a bank to choosing a school, to making your will, booking a holiday and buying the best chocolate, finding maps and directories. But I was also surprised at how many of the breezy reviews led me in directions I wouldn't have thought to pursue: reading up on Islam, joining an online reading group, whiling away hours on Google.

Finally, someone's produced a guide to turn this thirty-something into a real 'net head'. Highly recommended.
