Product Description

Synopsis

Iain Fletcher, one-time professional cricketer with Somerset CCC, city broker and now a regular rugby and cricket correspondent for a newspaper, tells the story of how he was given u7000 by betting giant "Sporting Index" and 11 months to see if he could make a profit. If he did, he could keep it! This is an account of those 11 months, starting in October 1999 and incorporating nearly every sport on television. It covers the wins, the losses, the great escapes and the near misses, along with the advice of people who include: cricket's Andrew Flintoff, Min Patel and Robert Keys; English rugby's Andy Gomersall; and golf's Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood.

1.0 out of 5 stars oh so dull!!, 25 April 2003
Good books on gambling should be instructive or gripping; great books are both. 'ON TILT' is neither. It is a dull diary of a man's attempt to make money by spread betting. The writer was given funds by a spread betting company. They wasted their money....even worse I wasted mine!!! An indication of the lack of effort put into the book is that there isn't even a guide for the uninitiated on the basics of spread betting.

I bought the book on the basis of the reviews which gave it five stars. On closer examination the third reviewer is a friend of the author who hadn't even read the book before writing the review.
In a nutshell it's a sell not a buy!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Better in theory than practice, 27 Jan 2006

The idea of writing a diary of the day-to-day ups and downs of a gambler's life is a perfectly fine one; unfortunately, I felt the execution on this occasion was less successful. I have no doubts about Iain Fletcher's writing skills; however, the "job" of a gambler, the same as any other job, is often routine and mundane and that affects the flow of the book. The writer is at his best when he moves off on a tangent and considers the mindset and motivation of gamblers and the nature of addiction of all sorts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Funky Fanny, 6 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This book is the diary account of a 'wannabe' professional gambler. The book is an eye opener and very funny in parts. You can really feel the adrenaline buzz of those bets that romp home and also the pain of being 'on tilt'. Come the end you'll catch yourself shouting for the Funky Fanny!
If you've ever wondered if you could make a living from gambling, trading etc then this book is right up your street!
Here's hoping that On Tilt 'mark II' isn't far away
