Product Description

Review

Bougie explores the scuzzier side of the cinematic spectrum with wit, insight, and often surprising levels of scholarship and research. --Don Guarisco, www.schlockmania.com

Wallowing through the filth and grime of a world that most dare not tread - at least openly - Robin Bougie has offered up some truly nut-busting moments of gonzo weirdness and cinematic nostalgia over the course of his journalistic career. --Rondal Scott, www.strangekidsclub.com

About the Author

In 1997, underground comic artist and zine publisher Robin Bougie began Cinema Sewer magazine, an ode to the seamier side of film and the culture that surrounds it. With an obscenely large collection of rare press books, posters, and obscure deranged movies, Bougie used his geek knowledge, his artistic skills as comic book artist, and connections in the world of porn to give birth to this unseemly but loveable bastard-child of a publication. Printed comic-sized on cruddy newsprint, the magazine quickly found an audience amongst film fans looking for something totally different. Bougie contributes liner notes for DVD releases for companies such as Something Weird Video and Video X-Pix. He has also written four volumes in the best-selling CINEMA SEWER series of books for FAB Press

Great imagery, fascinating and pretty thrilling in the way which things from the tangible past can be.
Taking the time to read through the accompanying text was rewarding, the essay appears to be extremely well researched and written with real joy + passion. When dealing with some grey areas of morality or so on the author is never apologetic, it is a grown-up piece of documentary.
it's great to see the change in the movies posters over time as well as read about the commercial industry as it emerged.

Don't think the book itself is overly misogynistic - but the content is from back-in-the-day, so you should know...

Unfortunately the authors of this book are more interested in the porn stars and what they did rather than the collection of artwork shown throughout the book. The examples are pretty bad and i know there was some wonderful artwork produced that just isn't displayed in this book.

This could have been an awesome collection of nudes, erotic photos and beautiful paintings - and info about the creators. Instead its repetitive with mediocre examples and info the on set antics of people which anyone could have read about online or in hustler.
