5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource!, 28 Aug 2002
By Andrew Hebden "andy hebden" (Bristol) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Once again the good people at Fab Press have published a genuine 'must-have' title for fans of movies from the obscure and exotic side of life.
DVD Delirium offers 640 pages of alphabetised mini reviews of a wide range of movies available on DVD throughout the world. Each review offers a compact and insightful synopsis of each film (without giving away endings) coupled with a description of both quality of transfer and extras. There is also a comparison of releases when movies are available in more than one region. Each review is also accompanied by a small thumbnail of the DVD cover, with timings and directorial and acting credits.
If further evidence was needed of the short-changing of movie fans in the UK (due to both censorship and cost-cutting), this treasure-trove is the last word.
Nathaniel Thompson's reviews often read like shorter versions of those found in Video Watchdog magazine, and, to be honest, I can't think of any higher praise.
As with any such collection, DVD Delirium will 'suffer' from the fact that the proliferation of new releases (predominantly from the US) will require updating in the future. That's fine by me, as I'd be more than happy to shell out for future updated and expanded editions to come.
I can't recommend this publication highly enough. Kick back, dim the lights, and make a shopping list!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will love you all night long., 13 Dec 2002
By Peter Large (Atlanta, GA, USA) - See all my reviews
I have never encountered a book in all my years of reading that satisfied me in the ways that this little tome was able to. Thick, hard-edged, compact yet full of churning goodness, DVD DELIRIUM is a DVD nut's dream come to full, vivid, throbbing life. Nathaniel Thompson doesn't just review a movie. He assaults it. Penetrates it. Chews it up and spits it out, leaving it writhing around on the linoleum kitchen floor of his single-bedroom apartment, with the cat staring on in disbelief. I learned things about movies I never thought possible. Heck - I learned that there WERE movies I never thought possible.

DVD DELIRIUM is a must-buy for anyone with a passion for film, DVD or cult cinema, especially those with particularly sedentary lifestyles. The grossly obese and overwhelmingly stationary will love this book, let me tell you. I know I did.
