Product Description

Film Review, ***** Five Stars

Despite its titillating - possibly blasphemous - subject, this is a scholarly work with encyclopaedic scope. Illustrated throughout, often with adult material, this definitely won't be for The Sound of Music crowd. While it may have fetish appeal for some, the attitude it adopts is far from sniggering. Written with authority, it unashamedly celebrates a provocative subject in a mature, intelligent and approachable manner.

Shock Cinema

A beautifully printed, obsessively researched and fabulously twisted volume that pays tribute the long-fetished concept of the 'nasty nun' in motion pictures and more. Intelligently written and packed with hundreds of illustrations, ad mats and undraped Sisters, this is a must-have coffee table book for the lapsed Catholic cognosecenti.

3.0 out of 5 stars less broad but deeper information would have been beter, 11 Sep 2000
By cyberbambi123 (Zürich - Switzerland / Europe) - See all my reviews
Nun's in film from Audrey Hepburn's "The Nun's Story" to Sexploitationmovie "Scared Flesh". More Nunploitation and Underground, than mainstream-Hollywood productions. The Publishers had proplems to find somebody who wanted to print the book because of his "strong" (?) content. Pretty difficult to understand for an european country in the 21st Century.....! The author collected a huge amount of informations about Nunploitation from films, over Comics, till theater and literatur. Never the less the structure of the book didn't convince me very much. A simple film by film listing with less general informations but deeper filmcoverage would have been more and better. All in all the first work about this (Underground-)theme and therefor it belongs in any serious filmbook-collection.
