Despite its titillating - possibly blasphemous - subject, this is a scholarly work with encyclopaedic scope. Illustrated throughout, often with adult material, this definitely won't be for The Sound of Music crowd. While it may have fetish appeal for some, the attitude it adopts is far from sniggering. Written with authority, it unashamedly celebrates a provocative subject in a mature, intelligent and approachable manner.
