Book Description
In September 1970, a new science-fiction series premiered on British television. Inspired by popular interest in sightings of unidentified flying objects, 'UFO' followed the exploits of the top-secret SHADO organisation whose operatives defended the Earth against hostile extra-terrestrial visitors. Headquartered in an underground complex concealed beneath a film studio, with a lunar base and a fleet of sophisticated air, ground and submarine vehicles at their disposal, SHADO waged a covert war against the Aliens - a war in which even the most triumphant victory was often tempered by appalling personal sacrifice.
Fondly remembered for the catsuited, purple-wigged Space Trackers of SHADO Moonbase, state-of-the-art model effects and a career-defining performance by series star Ed Bishop as Commander Ed Straker, 'UFO' was the first live-action television series from producer Gerry Anderson, the creator of 'Thunderbirds', 'Captain Scarlet', 'Fireball XL5' and 'Space:1999'. More than 35 years on, 'UFO' has become a cult TV classic with a devoted following around the world.
'The Complete Book of Gerry Anderson's UFO' is the authorised reference guide to this cult classic television series. This definitive companion tells the full story of the making of the series, presents a comprehensive guide to all 26 TV episodes, and goes 80 feet beneath the Harlington-Straker Film Studios to lift the lid on the top-secret SHADO organisation.
Revised and updated for this hardback edition, the book now includes details of the unfilmed episode 'The Patriot' and plans to remake the series for a 21st century audience, plus an eight-page colour photo section and a new foreword by best-selling author Donald James.
