Desiree Scott's book "The Borzoi" is a boon to novice owners & breeders alike. She takes us from the early days of the breed to the present day. Using her own illustrations she guides us through the breed standard, showing us some excellent construction points as well as serious faults. The section on British Show History is done with her usual great attention to detail, introducing us to all the greats of the breed. Her research on the breed really showing itself to advantage in this Chapter. Chapter 5 on puppies should really help the novice owner through what can be a minefield, with constant good advice & reassurance. For the more experienced owner the section on genetics is explained in real & simple terms (even though I still found it hard going!). The Chapter on Borzoi breeding starts with a photograph that should serve as a warning to all on what can go wrong when the breed gets in the wrong hands. The Appendix of British Show Champions provides a detailed list of every Champion made up in the UK. To sum up I consider this to be the Best and most Comprehensive book on the Borzoi ever written. The Winifred Chadwick book on the breed I have heard described as "The Bible"if so then surely this is "The New Testament"! My advice to any Borzoi owner or fancier is buy this book today - you wont regret it. Edward McKenzie (Borcho Borzoi,Scotland)
