Behind the humour and premise of this series, this book is actually a very useful guide to the budding business wannabe ! Certainly a lot more useful than many business start-up packs distributed by banks or government agencies, because it tells it how it is in practice. Also manages to decipher modern American business mumbo-jumbo speak, and put it in plain language.

It would be great if the author were allowed to revise and update this book to take into account the Internet age !

Having had something like 9 reprints, this book is one of, if not the, bestselling small business book available. Richards’ style of writing is accessible and amusing yet he manages to deliver some superb advice. You won’t find any pretentious business school-speak, just sound, practical advice from someone who knows what he’s talking about and has the ability to convey that message effectively to others.

Categorising this book in the humour section was daft, as it deserves to be ranked along with the classic business texts.

Richards is clearly an erudite man, yet unlike so many, he combines this with a really clever sense of humour and what you have in this guide is sound advice, delivered in a really accessible style. No talk of post-endogenous growth theory, just sound, practical, amusing advice. I've read a few and this is the best value book of the genre on the market.
