4.0 out of 5 stars Jocular Jaunt, 14 Sep 2007
By Hobo (England) - See all my reviews
This is a very interesting read about the authors walk along the Hadrians Wall Footpath from Wallsend to Bowness. The author outlines the history and its association with the region. There is interesting information about Places to visit and accomodation. If I have a criticism of the book, its his humour, which I found overpowering at times and tended to distract me,e.g Caesar invaded looking for "Pork Scratchings".If you are requiring a more serious, historical approach to Hadrians Wall this may not be what you want,(try Hunter Davies, "Walk along the Wall").If you are looking for a light hearted read about Hadrians wall then you will enjoy this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Which way to turn?, 30 April 2008
This is a book which is trying to do too many things- offer advice, give a background to history, a guide to the best of the Wall- it's not sure which it wants to do. Any Scots will be disappointed by the constant ravings about the 'Jocks' and the silly jokes don't always hit the mark. It is a good supplement to the Mark Richards Guide to the Wall- but I think Bob needs to choose a voice, and stick with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr Bob's best so far!, 5 Oct 2006
By R. Boffy - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bob Bibby's idiosyncratic, not to say wacky, sense of humour, coupled with genuine enthusiasm for his subject make this a highly readable and enjoyable travelogue - better than Theroux in my opinion. Bob is in danger of bringing a new lease of life to this sometimes jaded literary form and this is the best of an entertaining bunch. Where next, Bob? I can hardly wait.
