5.0 out of 5 stars Glenn Hopp Achieves The Impossible!, 13 May 2002
By A Customer
It's amazing that a book this size can be written about a man who lived a long life and made some of the greatest films of all time, and yet still be full of insight, analysis and fascinating facts. The Pocket Essential series are, well, essential anyway but this one doesn't waste a word when it comes down to discussing Billy Wilder's life and career. 95 years, many films and hundreds of anecdotes crammed into only 94 pages sounds impossible but Glenn Hopp achieves it, and for that I salute him. If anyone is interested in becoming familiar with Wilder the wit, writer, director or genius, then this book is an excellent starting point.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not much good at all., 30 Aug 2005
I can only guess that 'a reader from Doncaster' is someone who has worked on the Pocket Essentials series. This is a 96-page book containing less than 10 pages of text about Billy Wilder himself. The bulk of the book seems to be a list of all his films with a summary of each, a token bit of critique and marks out of five. I have already seen most of his best films so I don't need to know what they are about. If you want a Billy Wilder 'Biography' then don't buy this. If you are doing a small project on 'The Films of Billy Wilder' for a Film & Media Studies course then this may be useful. I'm afraid this book will only be in my pocket on the short journey to the charity shop.
