Product Description

From the Author

In this case, the editor's comments:
This book of essays assists in an understanding of Celtic Football Club and its historic community of supporters that in the main is constituted by the Irish diaspora in Scotland and elsewhere. It reflects on the roots and nature of the Club as well as the culture and identities of its support. It considers both the club and its supporters in the context of Scottish society. This book adds to current notions of modern Scotland and how it manages and reflects its multicultural society.

(REAL NAME)
This is an excellant book.Having been brought up in a"traditional Celtic familly"in Scotland during the seventies, and as a roman catholic in a predomenantly protestant area, i know only too well what it feels like to be on the end of bigoted remarks and anti catholic sentiments.I remember being very careful in trying to hide the fact that i was a catholic when meeting new people. The one thing that stood out for us as catholics and gave us a real sense of pride and status was the success of Celtic football club.
This book goes a long way in helping me realise how there is a special bond between the supporters and the club. This is not a book full of great victorys and results, but rather an explanation of the influx of Irish imigrants into Scotland and their struggles when they got here, and also about the great institution that they started in Celtic football club.
