Product Description

Book Description
Across the Islamic World, illuminating Korans from Morocco to Malaysia, and adorning mosques, mausoleums and palaces, are hidden some of the most exquisite geometrical devices ever conceived by man.

In this excellent little book, geometer Daud Sutton unravels the mystery of Islamic patterns, explaining where they come from, how to draw them, and hinting at the Divine messages they encode. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WORK OF SPECTACULAR INSIGHT, 8 May 2008
By Steven Ashe "Qabalah" (Glastonbury,) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Shapes and Forms' paper and Qabalistic based Hermetic design against this work, there is no comparison. Daud Sutton is a born scholar who manages to introduce the dazzling complexity and subtlety of Islamic lineal shapes and forms with consummate ease. One of my favourite source works. --Steven Ashe

5.0 out of 5 stars Great examples and easy to follow, 21 Mar 2009
By Sara "*<- Saara ->*" (London, England, UK!) - See all my reviews
This is a great little book for beginners and advanced readers as it takes you through the process of creating the patterns from simple to complex. It also shows many beautiful examples and explains the symbolic and theoretical background to some of the formations. Well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars a handy little book about islamic art / design, 1 Jun 2009
By A. Keel "ayjay" (London, Great Britain) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book as a present for an islamic colleague at work and he greatly appreciated it as it was a gift that was not that expensive but still recognised his heritage and was respectful in the way that the book was written.
