Book Description
The newest in a series of popular breed books. You will find much needed factual information and advise including points on training, care, feeding, behaviour, everything needed to maintain a happy healthy lifestyle for this treasured breed.

From the Inside Flap
The Bearded Collie, known to his flock as the ‘Beardie’, acquires his name from his shaggy coat, which protects him from the elements and gives him an irresistible, lovable charm. Known for centuries in Scotland and Northern England, the Beardie has handy size, a happy temperament and an irrepressible willingness to participate in all activities, whether on the farm or during a family outing. This is a fun-loving, adaptable and hardy dog for the right owner. This book provides the much-needed factual information about the Bearded Collie and its ancestry, character and standard, as well as the proper selection, feeding, training, preventative health care and behaviour of the breed. The new owner will welcome advice about puppy-proofing the home, preparing for the pup’s arrival and preventing puppy problems. In addition to an extremely authoritative text, this book presents over 135 photographs in full colour, which prove to be as informative as they are attractive. Helpful hints and important information are highlighted to provide easy access to everything the reader needs to know about life with a Bearded Collie. Whether it’s housebreaking problems, allergies or fleas, this book is the way to prevention, providing the reader with the necessary guidance an owner needs from puppyhood through the senior years. Recommended by top breeders and trainers, this book is the responsible first choice of every new owner of a Bearded Collie. Topics discussed include: History of the Bearded Collie; Characteristics of the Bearded Collie; The Bearded Collie Breed Standard; Your Bearded Collie puppy; Everyday care of your Bearded Collie; Housebreaking and training your Bearded Collie; Health care of your Bearded Collie; Showing your Bearded Collie; Behaviour of your Bearded Collie.

The Bearded Collie is very much the type of breed that many people feel they already know, simply because of their similarity to a lot 'shaggy mongrel' types. Read the first page

4.0 out of 5 stars A very complete book on Bearded Collies, 11 Dec 2001
By A Customer
It certainly is a very complete book on beardies. It covers all the aspects on Beardies'history and breed standards, personality, puppy care and development, everyday care, housebreaking and training, behavioural problems, health care and beardies on shows. At the end of the book you have a page to attach your beardie's photo and write down his/her details as well as vaccination records. It's very complete specially in dog behaviour and health issues, showing the most common parasites and helping you identify them and their consequences. It's a book made with care and a good research on the Beardie World that any beardie owner should have..and it will show to the novices in this breed the difference of a Beardie as opposed to a Bobtail or Old English Sheepdog, breed that many times when walking with bearded collies a lucky owner has to explain to many people due to a high amount of people that when meeting a Beardie still confuse Beardies with Old English Sheepdogs.
If you haven't choosen your beardie, please get books before you do and find out if it's the suitable breed for you.Beardies need lots of attention and care and despite their cuddly toy look,THEY ARE NOT A TOY!!! Never consider a dog as an alternative for a surprise present or just to please your children if it's not going to be cared for as he/she deserves. There are already too many dogs abandoned every year and many of them tortured.
Always remember that A DOG IS NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS.
