Amazon.co.uk Review
Nick Sharman is a washed-out, middle-aged, private detective living in South London. He's on furlough, "just kicking back without a care in the world except whether to watch Jerry Springer or the Rockford Files." This changes dramatically when his new girlfriend, Melanie, persuades him to take on the case of a local restaurateur, which catapults Sharman into the centre of a bizarre family feud.

His client is the overbearing, wealthy, Mr. Khan, who has something of a Don-like status among the Asian society of South London, as well as in his own neighbourhood of Manchester. He is prepared to pay Nick handsomely to find his teenage daughter Meena, who has run away from home. While Nick has mixed feelings, "That bloke Khan gave me the willies big time. I don't trust him", he sets aside his personal views and embarks upon the investigation. However, no one is allowed to speak the truth and those in need of help are hiding things from him. Is there a more sinister aspect to this apparently straightforward case?

It becomes clear that this is not a simple matter of cultural differences but of obsession, control, murder and mafia-style violence. By the time Nick realises he should have trusted his earlier instincts, he finds he is unable to walk away--he is embroiled in the case and is desperate to help Meena. Quick Before They Catch Us is a fast-moving, action-packed story an ending so thrilling, it would even make Tarantino proud. -- Neelam Dongha. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Synopsis

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard hitting fast moving in yer face action, 15 Aug 2000
By A Customer
Having read all of Timlins previous releases i eagerly anticipated the release of his latest offering. The book continues in the same formula as previous Nick Sharman investigations, which for those of you not familiar with mr Sharman is loads of drugs, guns, villians and women. An entertaining read if this is your particular bag but not for the faint hearted.Overall though i was left slightly dissapointed as i didn't feel that there was enough of previous Sharman antics in this book, maybe it's just the formula fading a little after six or seven previous books.Still worth a read.

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointing read. It did not live up to my expectations, 29 Mar 2000
By A Customer
This book was given to me and was recommended as a good read, but I'm afraid it didn't live up to the recommendation. I am not about to tear it apart because there was nothing wrong with it as such. It was just that it was a rehash of the kind of stuff this calibre of crime novelist churns out with numbing regularity. I suppose it pays the rent, and you can't help feeling that if the writer can pull it off and persuade some publisher to print it, then good luck to them. I'll be giving Timlin a second chance, but if his next book is as lacking in originality, I won't bother again - there are too many genuinely good reads around to waste time on third rate stuff.
