Product Description

Synopsis

A novel set in the heart of a bohemian ghetto in which a lavish porn theatre becomes the centre of focus for a former triple-X film director, a ruthless gangster and his photographer son. From the author of BOX NINE and WIRELESS.

From the Back Cover

A harrowing and ecstatic descent into a breathtaking netherworld aswirl with the real, the imagined and the absolutely unforgettable. Amid the post industrial decay of Quinsigamond glitters a fabulous jewel - Herzog's Erotic Palace - America's most lavish porn theatre and a gangland laundry for semi-sour cash. But most of all, Herzog's is the place where dreamers meet and seductive nightmares find their dazzling realisation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Odd, exciting, scary and wild., 12 Dec 1999

This review is from: The Skin Palace (Paperback)
I read a review of The Skin Palace about three years ago when it came out in hardback which praised O'Connell as a new noir master. I went out and bought Box Nine and Wireless on the strength of that review. Neither one really convinced me that there was anything special going on and when I finally came across The Skin Palace in paperback, I was in two minds about buying it. I'm glad I did. It is superior to O'Connell's previous books. It is a more mature and better structured work with far more left unsaid despite the pornography and violence that surrounds the inhabitants of Bangkok Park and the Canal Zone. Be careful of what you go looking for on the mean streets of Quinsigamond, you just might find it.
