Special Places to stay in Spain,has to be one of the best introductions to Spain for those who know it and those who like me think they know it. Having lived in Spain for twenty years. I was enthralled to find a book that showed me many places,that i would wish to visit and stay.
I personally know and have visited a number of the places in the book. I agree wholeheartedly with the commwnts given. Not only do they provide a guide to some of the best,not the most expensive, but the most interesting place to want to visit.
The people who own and run the places shown are
innordinantly proud of there achievements in bringing out both their own experiances of Spain and of the local history and sights to see.
One of those travel books you will read from cover to cover to make plans with, even if you never get there.
You will always wish you could.

I have been a convert to this book now for several years and would not be without it. My partner and I travel extensively in Spain and are passionate about the country and its culture.

This book gives access to information on small independent hotels in Spain and is rarely off the mark (we have stayed in over 20 hotels listed in the book).

From speaking to a number of hoteliers in the book Hotels are regularly checked out and if they don't come up to scratch are dropped. I note that the few hotels which we did find disappointing from prevoius editions have been dropped from the latest guide.

I have recommended this book to both friends and family and they too have found it essential reading when planning a holiday to Spain.

Special places to stay is an excellent companion to any journey around Spain, but it can prove a little dangerous, as its easy to start getting tempted towards exploring some of the more expensive options. although the book does cover a wide range of accomodation from casa rurals right through to converted monastries, it is certainly for the most part not for the budget traveller, although many of the places covered offer very good value for money, and the comprehensive details provided with each special place gives extensive details on what meals and so on are included, and occasionaly recomending specialities.
The book is well served by maps at the front which give numbered references to the special places along your route, and this allows for some advanced planning as some special places are worth a little detour.
on the whole the reviews of the accomodation is realistic and very close to the mark, and overall is pretty reliable. always worth calling in advance though as many of these places are very popular, its not uncommon to see other guests reading this book to plan their next stop in fact, and always check the prices in advance as unsuprisingly some hotels prices are different or there wil be no cheap rooms left.
Special places to stay offers an insight into some lesser known areas of spain, and some amazing and usually very acommodating, even a little luxurious small hotels and guest houses.
