Product Description

Product Description

If that goal in Paris had been allowed then everything that followed could have been different. For young Stephen Bottomley something died that night. This novel follows the fortunes of this Leeds United fan as he comes of age in the dark days of the early 1980s with no prospects and no guidance.

From the Author

Partly autobiographical, partly fictional, totally realistic (well, that's for the reader to say but it is the writer's aim).

5.0 out of 5 stars One Northern Sole - Brilliant., 29 Jan 2003
Re-live the tears and the laughter that made being a Leeds fan so special and unique in the 1980's. This book is not just about football, its about life and anybody who grew up during this era in any northern town will relate to how life was in the period of time dominated by unemployment, Maggie Thatcher and away trips to Shrewsbury Town.
The book is so addictive you can almost smell the Eighties.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just Football, 5 Oct 2005
If you were born in the sixties; if you were brought up around Beeston (Leeds); if you follow Leeds United; if you enjoy late seventies music; if you started your drinking in the early eighties; or any combination of these you will love this book. (I have to confess to fitting all categories). If you just love a great story with good characters you will still love it.
There may be a football picture on the cover and it certainly has plenty of football between the covers, but it is not a pure football book - My wife hates football but read this virtually in one sitting. Great stuff Rob it brought back some great memories (the Rex) and some not so pleasant (Martines).

4.0 out of 5 stars a must for football fans everywhere, 27 Aug 2002
it's not a long book but it's very funny and well worth £5.99 of any football fans money
i'm sure the character in the book steve bottomley is just like any regular die hard fan
that the book is set in south leeds an area i grew up in myself brought back a lot of memories, and for me made it even more of a good read. if you followed football or became of age in the eighties buy the book now and relive your whole youth in 112 pages of sheer delight

Okay, this great book has a football match cover but don't get it wrong, ONS is about much more than just football and being a fan. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all true die hard Leeds fans
I bought this book for my husband, he said it was a must for all Leeds fans. Quite a short book but interesting nonetheless!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read; good laugh; very poignant.
This was a quick, fun, enjoyable and involving read which chronicled the short tales of Steve Bottomley and his time in and around Leeds (the football grounds AND the pubs)... Read more
