I have been reading most of Jim's articles over the years. He always brings me back down to earth by his view on catching carp and I have admired his way of explaining the principles needed to be consistantly successful in catching these difficult fish!

Although he does not publicise his catches he is well know as one of the leading anglers in the country. His ability to write well and with humour is a huge bonus as well.

Although the book is highly detailed in all aspects of fishing for carp in the many gravel pits of England and Europe, much can be applied to fishing in any kind of lake and river.

He gives us decades of knowledge learnt at all kinds of waters. Each chapter goes into great depth and covers everything from all the different kinds of pits, depths, weed, weather, rigs, bait, feed, equipment and tactics. There are loads of clear diagrams and photos and it is really well laid out clearly and runs to over 300 pages.

I own many fishing books and this one is by far the best technical book of its kind. Great to revisit every so often to remind oneself what I am doing wrong!

like most of you, ive read a few of jims articles in various carp fishing magazines,sometimes i didnt agree with what he had to say,but on the whole im 100% behind him,this book is so well written,and easy to read it seems to flow,and before you know it,you've just read 30 pages,and in my opinion all books should be like this,as this is what makes them a joy to read,im only on page 30 and ive already learnt a few things,its also bang up to date with the technical stuff to,i would say that this is the best carp fishing book ive read to date.
