1.0 out of 5 stars Can even give it 1 star?, 15 April 2005

To be a road map shouldn't it display roads?

Absolute waste of time

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely useless for the serious cyclist, 18 Feb 2005
When I came accross this title I could not believe my luck. I had been planning a bike ride across Spain, France and Portugal and was looking for a suitable map to carry with me. Amazon cannot be free from blame - there is no physical description of the map apart from 'paperback,'and so it does not tell you that it is in fact a tacky poster with a few nice ideas from bike rides. I was expecting detailed maps, outlining good cycle routes accross these three countries. Please do not be fooled like I was.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good points and Bad points, 7 Oct 2005

I was delighted to find this map, which summarizes some excellent and well-signposted routes. The map is printed in rugged paper, and comes in a neat protective plastic sleeve. However, it does have one major drawback.

I am used to British OS maps, Michelin maps (200K scale), and Swiss maps, which are printed to a high standard of detail and are utterly reliable. Each town shows enough deatil to navigate through, though these maps do not show cycle paths. The Cycle Europe Map is at 400K scale, and I accept that it cannot show the same level of detail, but it is unbearably crude, with tracks made up of typically 5, 10, or 20mm straight lines. In particular, the LF5 from Dendermonde to Gent is shown as SOUTH of the River Schelde, whereas the true path is on the NORTH side. Fortunately, by the time I reached this point, I had purchased a guide to the LF5 which printed excellent 50K scale maps. If you need to pick up the route somewhere, you need a better level of accuracy than this.

Cycle Europe Map is great for planning, but it is not much use on the road.
