5.0 out of 5 stars The future of the the little clubs, 14 Nov 2003
If it wasnt for the passion of people like Niall for their clubs then many more would go into liquidation. Having known him for many years his unrelenting support for the most unglamourous of clubs has been un relenting. Personally being a charlton supporter have seen the hard time, and look at us now. I wish Niall all the success he deserves with the book, and truely hope that Wimbledon eventually settle at somewhere they can call home. Football needs you. Best wishes Gareth Barnes

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling read for any Football Fan, 4 Dec 2003
By Vic (Essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
The Spirit of Wimbledon is a must read book for anyone who supports or plays for their local football team, large or small. Perhaps not a read for glory hunters. It charts, through the eyes of players, fans and club staff, the highs and lows of a small club which in its 113 year history has gone from non league obscurity to winning the FA cup and topping the league. The book goes on to describe the fans later fight against the Franchising which was threatening to take their team away. When it finally succeded and the club was to be shipped 70 miles north, the same Wimbledon "never say die spirit" was used by the supporters to set up a new club in non league which had the same dreams and aspirations as before. If AFC Wimblendon's second season in existence is anything to go by, this book could be re written all over again in 20 years time!

The book is written by chaining together hundreds of interviews with Niall filling in with commentary in between. The player by player talk through of the cup final win is enthralling.

If you support your local football club then buy this book, you might save yourselves a lot of heartache in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Re-Living the Dream, 30 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Niall can be a bit of a doughnut sometimes, but this book is outstanding. Buy it now, and (re)live the dream, just like we did.
