Product Description

Synopsis
This is the first complete telling of the Apple story, culled from exclusive interviews with the recording artists, staff, and business associates who helped make Apple a fascinating chapter in the history of both the Beatles and pop music in general. Today, the Apple office is remembered as a place where almost anyone could come in off the street and meet one of the Beatles, get funding for an outlandish art project, or just drop in to the Apple Press Office for a drink and a quick smoke. For less well-intentioned visitors, Apple was where one could go to pinch an electric typewriter, a box of LPs, or quite literally the lead off of the roof of the Apple building at 3 Savile Row. But Apple was also the company that the Beatles used to discover and develop many deserving artists, including such stars as Mary Hopkin, James Taylor, Badfinger, Hot Chocolate, Billy Preston and Mercury-award nominated classical composer, John Tavener. Even a teenage Richard Branson figures in the Apple story.

Those Were the Days: An Unofficial History of the Beatles Apple Organization, 1967-2001 details the colourful history of Apple, from its inception to its current incarnation as the sole protector of theBeatles legacy. Stefan Granados has diligently been researching this project now for several years and the book also contains many very rare previously unseen photographs. Cherry Red expect exceptional media interest in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, 16 Jul 2002

Thanks to excellent research and great storytelling, this book is a fascinating read about an interesting, though not often commonly contemplated, era of musical and social history. As told in this book, the story of Apple is a fascinating one. I highly recommend this title for both music and non-music lovers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Apple from the Teacher, 13 Jul 2002
Great! Finally a comprehensive over view and inner view of the incredible Apple family and it's days and years. It was so refreshing to be able to read about the Jack Olivers, Ron Kass's and Ken Mansfields who were the ones who were serious about keeping the Apple polished as well as the wonderful madness and other more famous characters that made it so special . I loved the detail which gave me a sense of the reality of it all. I am lucky to have obtained this fine work---it needs to be published in America.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Apple a Day, 4 Oct 2002

(REAL NAME)
Like many Beatles Fans, and an avid collectorof Apple memorabilia, I welcome this book, which attempts to bring together the existing accounts available of Apple's history, (Di Lello's Cocktail Party)and some new revelations by Jack Oliver, Ken Mansfield amongst others. The books failure is to miss out on the opinions of some real key players, such as Neil Aspinall. It is interesting to note that the author discusses the dismissal of Denis O'Dell,Head of Apple Films. O'Dell's book states that he resigned. Alas this casts a little doubt on some of the other factual statements made in the book. Neverthe less Apple buffs and Appple Scruffs alike will surely enjoy this book, and thank the author for his efforts.
