1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother, 12 Jan 2003
I read a lot of these Brits in France accounts and I have to say that, even with my rose coloured escapist glasses on, this is by far the worst- I didn't even bother to finish it, which is unusual. The majority of the book is scarcely about France, or the French,at all, but about (in extraordinarily tedious detail) the problems she had with her various ( British) caretakers. It has the air of being written based on notes she took for an insurance claim or legal action. Truly dreadful- don't waste your money. ( Alternatively, I have a spare copy I don't need...)

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone thinking of buying a gite in France, 26 Feb 2002
By A Customer
If you are thinking of moving to France or buying a gite there then this book is a must for you.
It is an account of one families experiences of buying a gite for their own use and letting it out. It describes the pitfalls and pleasures through their own experiences. I found it extremely entertaining. In fact I couldn't put it down. I found some of the events quite shocking and I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. It is a wonderful book. It gives you a true taste of french life and I thouroughly recommend it.
