5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 12 Mar 2005
A highly recommended piece of writing that examines contemporary life and dilemmas in Ol' Endland. Why publishers are busy hyping second rate authors when work of this quality is being ignored is a symptom of the very same world that Etchells is engaging with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastical short stories of urban Britain, 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
With the artists collective Forced Entertainment, Etchells has produced some of the most beautiful texts for contemporary performance from the unpromising subject matter of an urban Britain whose popular gods are those of trash television and the tabloids.

In this collection of short stories he evokes the same terrain in a unique style of channelhopping prose which sends gods to earth to participate in quiz shows and outlines "The Shell Garages history of mud" in tones alternately brutal and beautiful. If you don't know his work this is a highly recommended introduction to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tales from the front line, 24 Jan 2003
By A Customer
The stories in this collection are utterly new, compulsive, depressing and precious. Subject matter shifts like a kelieidoscope of urban myths or a drunk channel hopping: mud, service stations, Diet Lilt and experiments on twins are all here. The point is: these are all stories in the true sense of the word. Inspired narratives with a young dreamer's logic.
