Product Description

Product Description

This updated handbook contains practical information to get around and explore Namibia, a wild and uninhabited area of southern Africa. It has been written by a team of Africa enthusiasts who have lived, worked and studied in Namibia for several years. The coverage of the guide is broadly based, encompassing the widely spread, established sights such as the Etosha game reserve in the north and the Fish River Canyon in the south, and the many less well-known areas of interest. It includes: full details about transport including timetables and costs; details on how to get around the Etosha game reserve; background information on culture, history and the German colonial legacy on the Atlantic coast; information on how to hike the six-day Fish River Canyon trial; what to take and what to leave behind; and how to explore and understand the Namib-Naukluft desert - an area of grandeur and fascination. A 16-page colour wildlife section is included.

4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and excellent guide to Namibia (only a few photos), 14 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This book is detailed and excellent guide to Namibia. I have been 3 months in Namibia and I can say that this book covers almost everything in Namibia. If you are planning a trip to Namibia, this is nearly perfect book for you. Accommodation, transport, sights and everything else is described thorough (web sites, e-mail addresses, phone numbers etc). There is lot of background information about history, economy, culture, climate, people and wildlife. If you are looking for book, which gives you quick overview of Namibia or if you want to see excellent photos from Namibia, this book is not for you. (Then you might be intrested in "Globetrotter Travel Guide to Namibia" by: Bill Revilio, Andrea Revilio.) This Footprint guide is great book for trip planning, but there is only a few photos from Namibia (wildlife section is only a basic guide for both South and East African animals).
