This updated handbook of detailed, practical information on East Africa, covers all the ten countries in the region. These include: the three great safarilands of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda; the countries of the central mountains, Rwanda, Burundi and RD Congo; and the nations of the Horn of Africa - Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti. The attractions of the region range from wildlife and exotic beaches, to history. The handbook contains practical facts such as information on national parks and game reserves, accommodation listings and travel information. A 64-page wildlife colour guide section is included, with illustrations of the familiar animals as well as reptiles, insects, birds, butterflies, sea-life, trees, flowers and crops. Information on where to stay and eat is included as well as on how to get about.

The book is also interspersed with anecdotal stories about a wide range of topics, from Gorillas to mountain climbing . The only thing that lets it down is the lack of pictures (there are a few of wildlife) but the book has definitely inspired me to get over there and take my own!  Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you?
