3.0 out of 5 stars Detailed but a bit short on practical information, 10 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This guidebook is very good at giving you information about the various historical and natural sites and also on the culture of Morocco. The background information about the country was excellent and generally better than that found in the other guidebooks of my travelling companions. It did not however contain the detailed practical information contained in their South American Handbook which was invaluable. More information on the cost of rail & bus journeys, the price of meals at recommended resteraunts and the exact price of accomodation would have been helpful. The maps were terrible and of only minimal use. A useful book, but depends what you are looking for in a guidebook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent travel guide in so many ways, 8 Jun 2000
By A Customer
I have traveled to Morocco five times and went with a pretty good Spanish guidebook from the "Trotamundos" series the first four times...until I discovered this Footprint guidebook... It was the perfect time, since the other one was falling apart, and because the Footprint guide was far superior for going to any town other than a big city. If you are going off the beaten track, then this guidebook is a must, because it is the ONLY one I have ever found that actually gives town maps of small cities and villages, as well as big cities, since you can get lost in any of them! The info on accommodations and food is GREAT, because it doesn't JUST cover the dirt cheap places, but also gives you a chance to go to some moderately priced and expensive places, too. The guide definitely covers more destinations than any other guidebook on Morocco that I've seen (and I think I've seen them all in English, French and Spanish). The only thing it is a little weak on is background info on some historical sites, although you won't get lost finding them and the historical and cultural background section at the end of the guidebook is great and interesting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed content, better for those not on a budget., 7 Dec 2006

I only travelled to Morocco for a week to Fes and Marrakech, using the Footprint and Lonely Planet Guides.
The Lonely Planet is obviously targetted at bugdet travellers while Footprint caters for those with more to spend. If you like a comfortable hotel then use the Footprint. Having said that, I turned quickly to the internet and Expedia, etc as it's much quicker, informative and upto date, and cybercafes are everywhere now.

Similarily, for those with past their packpacker days, seeking decent restaurants, bars and clubs, the Footprint guide is the better choice. Although occasionally only giving a phone number to find these venues could make things difficult.

The maps in the Footprint guide are OK but Lonely Planet's are better. The historical information in both is good. The guide to sights, excursions etc comparable, although Lonely Planet just wins out.

If you're a budget traveller this isn't the guide for you. If you're not then consider the Footprint guide.
For accomodation I will now always choose the internet.
