4.0 out of 5 stars Forget the style, enjoy the story, 18 May 2001
By A Customer
Julian Farrand is best known to me for his whimsically smiling face appearing in the pages of various pensions journals. I have also read many of his determinations in his role as Pensions Ombudsman, called PODs for obvious reasons. I wasn't aware previously that this referred to his lotharian inclinations. Still, anything that is so rude about lawyers and insurance companies cannot be all bad, and if one overlooks his stilted style of writing (this is the first novel I've read that gives footnotes to legal cases), and authorial intrusions (you get the feeling that he is smirking all the way through in a self congratulary and self satisfied manner), it's a reasonable yarn. The inclusion of the insurance investigators who play Bad Cop, Worse Cop is a joy for anyone who has been on the wrong side of a motor claim.

I have the pleasure to work alongside actuaries, and I believe they should each buy a copy.
