So is the mind really a database?
The mind is regularly referred to as a biological database in which our knowledge and our skills reside. Yet beyond the metaphor, remarkably little has been said as to how it might all work (try "database" and "biology" as a keyword enquiry right now). Specifically, there has been little research into similarities between particular database internals and particular neural processes. This 13-page booklet was first presented at conference, and looks at why this might be the case. It also presents parallels between the "set currency" mechanisms used in CODASYL type commercial databases and the molecular biology of short-term human memory.
