Bought a copy of Viz? Then you'll enjoy this., 13 Feb 2008
We have all bought a copy of Viz whether we're male or female just to find out what it was all about, and by and large, unless you don't have a sense of humour at all, then you will have laughed at Johnny Fart Pants, Nobby's Piles and all the other cartoons based on our bodily functions.
But it didn't start with Viz, oh no! You might think, if indeed you're perhaps 30 years of age or below, that this might be the case, but smutty and sub-porno comics have been around for decades, and the thing I particularly find of interest is the artwork. In general, even with the comics of my youth, like Victor, Lion, Tiger, Eagle and suchlike, I fell in love with the artwork; these people can draw those amazing pictures and capture the essence of the human nature and the faults which lie therein.
But these are not the comics you would buy in WH Smith or Menzies, these are the now priceless publications that were to be found in the under-the-counter, the back-street, and the off-the-main-High Street record shops where not all of us frequented. And some were regional, so it wasn't always possible to find some of them simply due to your geographic location. Fortunately, they have been rounded up here with extreme love and affection, and are illustrated profusely throughout these wonderful pages.
So this book is a veritable cornucopia of all things the British underground comic was and is and the artwork inside, and traces the history of the majority, if not all of them, so if you're a sucker for this stuff, as indeed you now know I am, then it's a knockout purchase for you, too.
