We were looking for a book with photos, descriptions, habitat, etc of birds as a present for parents now retired to the South of France. Unfortunately, this isn't it - it's a set of driving tours (maps, picnic locations, etc), with some mentions of what kind of birds (with very occasional line-drawings) you may see at various stops. If that's what you're after, this is probably a great book (good size, lots of detail for the drives, etc). It wasn't what we wanted, and not what the title would suggest!

This is an excellent guide to the birdwatching sites in lower France with clear and accurate details on where to find sites and what to expect at each site. We found it invaluable for the Camargue, the Tarn Gorges and Languedoc - Roussillon area.

Being a keen birdwatcher and having recently moved to France, I had been looking for a book giving details of good birding locations and what birds I would find there. This is just the book I had wanted!
No this is not for Mum and Dad, who want to know the name of the little brown bird that had just turned up in their garden, it is aimed at the more experienced birder either visiting or resident in France.
