This is a truly wonderful, rich and generous work. It is a very readable [I couldn't put it down] and comprehensive reference and resource manual which will delight anyone interested in language, communication and metaphor.
It covers hypnotic language patterns and their therapeutic application as well as the more advanced use of extended metaphor, narrative therapy, metaphorical tasks, guided metaphors for healing, and more.
There is a very clear section on constructing extended metaphors which looks at opening, developing and closing the metaphor, with helpful suggestions regarding fitting the metaphor to the client and even listing examples of useful phrases. Another facinating section analyses extracts from published metaphors by well known practitioners, noting what works well and why, and where perhaps the wording could be adapted to a softer, more permissive style. There are sample scripts and lots of examples drawn from casework - both the author's own and that of other acknowledged experts such as Erickson, Hayley, O'Hanlon, Kopp and others. Metaphoria will leave you with lots to think about and use.
This is a book to own and enjoy often. Don't expect to borrow it from someone else. No one will part with their copy - and neither will you!
