Hotspur Magazine, November 2006
Wryly written, thoroughly enjoyable and critically well-received.
Gold faithfully traces the dramatic season with an amusingly vivid
viewpoint.

The Observer, August 2006
An entertaining look at what it felt like for Tottenham to have a
season where they actually achieved something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hail To The Blythe Spirit, 27 Oct 2006

I have just finished reading Ode to Jol and although my opinion as a Spurs supporter since 1958 counts no more than any other Spurs supporter I do have a slight edge as a professional editor of many years standing.

As a Spurs supporter I say it's great, as an editor I say it has polish, it has been drawn together the way only an acute observer of human behaviour can, it's characterisation is solid and very real. This is a book that will still be around when people say "I have been a Spurs supporter since 2005".

A book so obviously written by somebody who is Spurs to the very core.

A bloody good read.

As a spurs fan it was great to read a book about Tottenham with genuine heart from a true fan. A great read and a great way to remember one of Tottenham's best seasons in ages. Roll on season 2006/07 and Alasdair Gold's next installment

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun and a perfect way to remember the season, 21 Aug 2006
By Brendan Jackson (London, UK) - See all my reviews
While I enjoy football books in general, I often steer clear of fan-written ones. However, being a Spurs fan and having read a good review in the Observer's sports section, I decided to give this a go. I'm glad I did.
What Gold managed to do was to keep a sense of humour through a season which had plenty of twists and turns. Every time he was delirious or in despair he wrote everything down. Perhaps it was therapeutic.
Like many good writers, Gold paints his own vivid version of events and I can't remember the last time I chuckled so much at a football book.
Great fun and with pages of action photos throughout, I'll always be able to remember a very entertaining season.
