Product Description

Book Description

Although he has been famous for more than 20 years, Morrissey remains the greatest enigma in the popular music of the English-speaking world. His songs are characterised by aching loneliness interspersed with lacerating wit, his interviews set the benchmark for controversial utterances, his admirers include Bono, J.K. Rowling and Will Self. Adored by both male and female fans, Morrissey has always refused to discuss his sexuality, thus heightening his sense of mystery. A fan of Morrissey since his days with The Smiths, Pat Reid has written an insightful and deeply personal Outline of the singer's life and art, re-evaluating the man and his music in the context of late 20th century popular culture.

About the Author

Pat Reid was born in Merseyside in 1968. He has contributed to magazines such as Q, Mojo and Hip-Hop Connection, with stints as Features Editor of Select, Deputy Editor of Rhythm and Editor of Channel 4's Music Of The Millennium. His other books are Bigmouth: Morrissey 1983-1993, 20th Century Icons: Gay (with Graham Norton) and 20th Century Icons: Rock & Pop (with Holly Johnson).

3.0 out of 5 stars Please re-name this book 'Morrissey & Me', 20 Jul 2004
By A Customer
I have enjoyed reading this book. However this book is not about Morrissey. It is about Pat Reid and how he discovered The Smiths and Morrissey. About how Pat Reid feels about Morrissey. So in that respect it makes a good read. It does not live up to it's title, for I read this book to discover Moz, not Pat Reid.

I know how I feel about Morrissey. Maybe I will write a book about it and tell the world how 'There is a light that never goes out' made me cry at 15, how I feel that Morrissey is God. I save that for my blog.
