5.0 out of 5 stars Essential if you love football at any level, 22 Nov 2001
By A Customer
In 1998, Scarborough FC - the first football club to ever be promoted from non league football into the professional game - were unceremoniously relegated thanks to a bizarre twist of events including a last minute goal from an illegal fielded goalkeeper. The author Ian Kerr is the club's youth manager and saw the entire sorry season unfold. He recalls the dreadful vibe at the club midwinter with water dripping from the ceiling and the intense arguments between passionate fans and a chairman who didn't quite know what to do with a club he'd made his baby. Superb, and if you're a glory supporter of a huge premiership club it's a real eye opener. This is the story of REAL football, REAL supporters and REAL heartache. It's not a case of relegation from Div 2 to 3 - this is the difference between having professional respect (and sorely needed F.A. funds to survive) and not having it.

Excellent.
