5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing must have Walking Map, 5 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This set of maps produced on one large double sided sheet is the companion map to 35 Tenerife Walks. I bought both and my book review follows. Tenerife Walkers Maps are just the very best mapping you can buy for this island. 1:25,000 scale with superb detail, no other maps even come close to the detail, accuracy and clarity of this map. I bought the Super-Durable edition and it is remakable for its soft silk touch but you can't tear it, it is waterproof and at the end of a week's constant folding and stuffing in my shorts pockets it still looked like new. Well worth the extra £2.00 over the paper edition.
35 Tenerife Walks saved my Spring break on Tenerife when we found our selves staying on a golf development; a "we choose your accommodation" cheapie package, it even had a good coastal escape route from the golf. Routes are well described giving the confidence to tackle the more adventurous routes later in the week.
I thought I knew much of Tenerife's walking but this book includes a lot of routes which are not in Landscapes or Rother books. "Taucho Tour" is a must in the South, along with "Table Mountain" Roque del Conde, and another ten southern routes all good half day routes ranging from easy to quite demanding. In the West you just have to walk "True Grit" (add in Lasso La Hoya for a really energetic day), "Saddle Up" and "Picnic at Hanging Rock" while in Las Canadas "Arenas Negras" "La Forteleza" and "Mighty Guagara" are all must walk routes. They even have a new western Paisaje Lunar route much more interesting than the eastern traditional route, which is also in the book. Only had time for "Los Organos" in the North and the description included the small forest path instead of the boring pista ascent that is in other books.
Mapping is excellent but to get the best out of Tenerife I would recommend the Tenerife Walkers Maps in 1:25,000 scale. I had the Super-Durable edition and it does exactly what it says on the cover - outlasts any paper map I have ever bought and should last for a good few years of tough use.
Buy the book and the map to have the most up to date walking package for Tenerife. Forget the coast, and the golf, and head for the mountains for a great time adventuring with confidence.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disapointed, 6 Aug 2004
By A Customer
I'm very disappointed with this map. First of all it only shows you the 35 walks of Tenerife and nothing more. This map can't be used for any real navigation. Also 25% of the paper used for this map is covered by publishers advertisements. For some weird reason this map doesn't have projection or datum info printed. As it is advertised as a GPS compatible one could believe this info would have been included. In general this is probably one of the worst maps I've ever seen. On the positive side the map is truly Super-durable. Unfortunately this is the only positive aspect of it. If you really want to get this one I suggest seeing it first before you buy it.

If you want a better option I suggest checking out the Kompass 233 Teneriffa (GPS compatible grid). It is what I expect from a map. It is accurate and it full fills its main purpose. You can navigate with it. Unfortunately the scale is 1:50 000 but the whole of Tenerife is covered. It also shows you all the hiking trails. If 1:25 000 map is required I would suggest getting maps from Mapa Militar de España. They have GPS compatible grids as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, lightweight, tough walking map, 5 Mar 2006
By Sam Clarke (Norwich) - See all my reviews
Most of Tenerife's best walking areas are shown at a clear 1:25,000 scale. These map sections manage to be both really detailed yet clear. They show walking routes recorded with a GPS unit by the cartographer, but if you want to 'go it alone' and find your own trails, this is the best map I have seen.

Although it doesn't rain that much on Tenerife I got caught in a downpour while out walking. The map was soaked through - or so I thought. Just a quick shake - and it was dry again and like new!

For such a modest price, this excellent map should be in every visitor's pack.
