5.0 out of 5 stars Europe's answer to Ed McBain, 15 Jul 2000

Disappointed with recent Elmore Leonard, disatisfied with Robert B Parker, I was looking around for something new to read that would excite me. Ken Bruen's Taming The Alien was recommended to me and I shelled out for it. I was hooked and had to get the rest of his books, which are fairly slim volumes (so why do they always cost more than mainstream titles?) published by Serpents Tail and Do Nut Press. Fantastic. Can't wait for the conclusion of the White Trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb cop thriller that should be read by everyone, 14 Jul 2000
By A Customer
Ken Bruen is a genius. I stumbled on The Hackman Blues a couple of years ago and loved it. Real writing about real people, where the cops are human and have bad days and take the odd sweetener, and where villains are everyday people doing what they have to do to survive. And if they enjoy a little mayhem along the way... what the hell? They're only human. Taming the Alien is the second in Bruen's mighty "White" trilogy, following A White Arrest. It follows the same cops - Inspector Roberts and Sergeant Brant - as they search for a south London hitman called the Alien. Tense stuff that's peppered with fantastic wit and violent action. This book makes James Ellroy look like a wimp. Buy it. Buy it.
