3.0 out of 5 stars Should Have Been Better., 28 Dec 2005
This is a small book measuring approximately 6” x 8” and is 96 pages thick. Of these the last 10 are an erotic story written by China Hamilton. My biggest gripe with this book is the use of the word “extreme” in the title. Yes the forward by Oliver Maitland seems to imply that “extreme” is in the eye of the beholder and its meaning has changed over the decades, with which I’m sure we all agree. But I believe this book should have only included modern photos that comply with the present day meaning of “extreme”. Oliver Maitland suggests that the photos from the 1940’s look tame and indeed they do. Even the modern Ben Westwood photos (6 in all) are (all but one) nothing more than standard girlie magazine fodder! The only remaining works of any real interest are by China Hamilton (8 interesting pictures) and Trevor Watson (30 excellent pictures). The book is of questionable value for money and I suspect that the £10 or so would be better put towards one of Westwood’s, Hamilton’s or Watson’s own works.
