Product Description
Synopsis
The Galapagos form Ecuador's best-known national park, and this is a comprehensive guide to the wildlife of the islands. A geological, climatic, and historical introduction to the islands is followed by coverage of the islands' unique plants, invertebrates, reptiles, birds, mammals, and seashore underwater creatures. This guide to the wildlife to be found there includes detailed walking tour plans as well as background information to the history and evolution of the islands.

From the Publisher
Galapagos
I first went to the Galapagos Islands in 1974, journeying there by ship which ran aground when the captain was otherwise engaged. I returned as a tour leader, having the immense good fortune to visit this archipelago a total of nine times. Since then I've wanted to publish the guidebook which I wish I'd been able to give my passengers: something to aid in identifying the wildlife as well as being a reminder of one of the world's most wonderful holiday experiences. David Horwell and Pete Oxford have allowed me to fulfill this ambition with their combination of superb photography and informative text (both are naturalist guides in the Galapagos).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - the envy of all other passengers on our boat, 28 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Took this book with us on our recent trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos. Really useful, packed with loads of background natural history info & great pictures, and helped us get far more out of our trip than we would have otherwise. Detailed information about all the landing sites. The book came home very battered as every passenger on the boat used it daily!

4.0 out of 5 stars Travel Size Galapagos, 17 Jan 2000
By igtoa@voyagers.com (Ithaca, New York) - See all my reviews
This relatively small book on the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands is packed with information and pictures. The author has gone to a great deal of trouble to condense a vast amount of data into a handbook for the traveller, without sacrificing essential information, clarity or accuracy. Not only does it cover the wildlife that the visitor is most likely to encounter, it also gives a succinct history of the islands. Working in the Galapagos Travel Industry, and having considered many similar books for pre-trip briefing and ready reference while in the islands, this is the book I would recommend.
