Product Description

Synopsis
For both tourist and business use, this is a complete guide to the Mascarene Isles - Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunion - with an expanded natural history section covering all the islands' nature reserves. It includes advice on the structure of business on the island as well as the sun, sea and sand for which Mauritius is renowned, with the very best of accommodation, food and watersports. The Mascarenes, about 500 miles apart off the east coast of Madagascar, have become a mecca for honeymooners and those attempting to get away from it all.

From the Author
My fascination for Mauritius resulted in this book
This guide came into existence because of a novel. I was asked by a publisher to write a novel that would complement my bestselling series of Bondmaster books, which I had written under the pseudonym of Richard Tresillian. These books were set in the Caribbean so I looked around for a similar location for The Fleshtrader Series (which I eventually wrote as Raynard Devine). Mauritius was the answer. Unfortunately, when I first went to Mauritius in the mid 1980s, I found none of the existing guidebooks conveyed in detail the wonderful atmosphere and diversity of the country. I fell in love with Mauritius as a place where I felt at home. Fortunately, publisher Hilary Bradt liked the idea of publishing a guide to Mauritius as it complemented her own guide to Madagascar. The first edition was built around my discoveries of the island, answering the sort of questions that I, as an enquiring writer seeking background material, had to ask. Subsequent editions, as more places have opened up to visitors, have grown larger and more detailed. The latest edition has a much larger section devoted to Rodrigues which has always been something of a mystery island, and a new section on the French island of Reunion. The book is a perfect companion for a visit to any of the Mascarene Islands.
