This text examines the rediscovering of traditional folk music: its antecedents in the USA and its development in Scotland; its varied manifestations - the ceilidhs, folk clubs, festivals, story-telling, educational aspects, the travelling people - inlcuding its relation to the past, and to the present political climate. Many songs are transcribed from the performances of folk musicians, and in the Appendix four are given with the contrasting variations rendered by leading singers. Comments from the singers are included. A revised and updated edition of "The Folk Music Revival in Scotland" (1984), this book provides information for every student, enthusiast and performer of "people's music".
