For anyone studying or interested in the Second World War, this highly illustrated book offers a tremendous social history of the time. It considers the impact of war on society - the presence of US solders, evacuation of children, the role of women, education and more. It draws on many interviews and includes vignettes on Macclesfield citizens who made particular wartime contributions such as Guy Gibson. It combines well founded factual history with the personal perspective to make a very interesting read.
