Product Description

Product Description

The book covers everything a non-French person needs to know about: Buying a house in France, What area to choose, what type of house style, where to look for a house, building your own house and, finally, how to negotiate the property transaction, Moving to France. Congratulations! You've bought the house. You now need to know about moving into the house, living in France and, if you need to, working there. The book explains the above in straight-forward language, supported by a wealth of tables and contact details for further information. Whether you're looking to buy an old country farm, a new house, an apartment, share a property or set up a gite complex, this book covers you all the way. The book is aimed at non-French people who are looking to buy a house in France to use as a: 1. holiday home, 2. retirement home, or 3. to work from. The book assumes no prior knowledge of France, the French language or of the French property market. Therefore, it is hoped the book will prove useful to the whole range of ages: from young people looking to move to France and start a new life, to older people planning to retire to France.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book!, 21 Jul 2004
By Paul Jones (Portland OR) - See all my reviews
I've got a mini library of books about property and living in France, but this is by far the best. And at over 400 pages it is easily the most comprehensive.

It really does cover all the ground from looking for a house, finding agents, negotitating, getting a mortgage and then moving in. It also has a huge section on living in France (including, finally, the definitive word on cartes de sejours!) and working in France. I'm thinking of setting up a business in France, so I found this last section especially useful.

If you want to know why so many people are buying houses in France - read the case study of the man who bought a house in Deux Sevres and met his neighbours!
